Our Story

Located in southwestern New York State, Hickory Hurst Farm is owned and operated by Adrienne Ploss. She is the fourth generation of her family to operate the farm since 1908. The unexpected death of her older brother brought her back to the family farm in 2009.

Adrienne plunged into farming, determined to forge new paths as a legacy to her family. Her horticultural training and experience working in the nursery and landscape industry eased the transition. She hosted a local radio gardening show for ten years, wrote a book (released March 2023), and is writing her second book (due to be released in late spring 2024).

Adrienne acknowledges that she and the farm crew are farming on Erie land of the Haudensaunee people.

In addition to the farm, Adrienne teaches on-farm workshops and area gardening classes and speaks to groups. She also shares her experiences in educating the public about the roles of native plants in the landscape. Adrienne is extremely appreciative of everyone— family, staff, friends, neighbors, customers, and her community—who support the family farm and help ensure its future.
